Individual support

Last update: 02-19-2009

Maximising potential

ESC Montpellier students benefit from individual and personalised support at every stage of their student life, from admission to graduation.

Identifying and developing the behavioural skills of each student constitutes a main teaching objective. Consequently, ESC Montpellier has introduced a number of identification tools, with staff involvement throughout the study programme.

Identifying personal and professional skills

Starting with candidate selection for individual programme oral exams, ESC Montpellier employs a specifically designed interview method developed with Hay Management Consultants. This method, used in other prestigious, international universities as well as by major international companies, is the result of research on explicative and predictive performance indicators. Using this method, the School aims to identify, in the course of oral examinations, a candidate's personal and professional skills. This initial assessment constitutes the basis for individualised student support.

Creating permanent individual links between students and the institution

To enable students, right from the start of their studies, to enjoy a permanent individual link with the institution, ESC Montpellier operates a “facilitation” scheme. Each student is supported by a mentor; a school lecturer who is there to help simplify and humanise student dealings with the various administrative and teaching departments as well as to offer support to the student in the face of problems (studies-related or other) which may be encountered, monitoring the student’s progress within the School.

Evaluating and benefiting from experiences

Since support and assessment play a vital role in the acquisition of knowledge and know-how, students’ academic performance and entrepreneurship is monitored by coaches throughout their course. Lecturers and professional experts can maintain and control the implementation of skill development tools and systems regardless of their location. Using skill identification and development methods, coaches help students to develop their self awareness, to evaluate their knowledge and their behaviour, thus enabling them to glean maximum benefit from their experience.
